In 2026 we will be entering two teams. A high level of fitness is required but no experience is necessary. Each boat has a coach who will teach you to paddle and a sweep who will steer the boat and give instructions on the water. Students must be able to swim and commit to attend all 6 trainings and both events. Don't sign up if you can't commit. Please check the dates below and make sure you can commit to all the dates. The registration fee covers all the trainings and the two events. 

NOTE: Entries will be taken on a first come first served basis. The total cost will be $95 per paddler. An initial payment of $70 is required immediately to secure your place in the boat, with the remaining $25 due by 28 November 2025. If you have any outstanding sports fees, you will not be accepted until those are paid.

We need 25 students per team (20 plus subs), if we do not have sufficient registrations then your fee will be refunded in full.  

• Trainings:  Four Mondays starting Monday 2 February until Monday 23 February 2026 AND two Wednesdays: Wednesday 18 and 25 February 2026 (6 training sessions ALL COMPULSORY to attend)
• Training times: Squad B: 5.00pm to 6.00pm - Mondays and the two Wednesdays 
• Training times: Squad A: 6.00pm to 7.00pm - Mondays and the two Wednesdays 
• Venue(s): Frank Kitts Park in Wellington
• Transport: Students must make their own way there. Most students get the public bus from Queensgate to Wellington train station, and walk to Frank Kitts park (a 10 min walk). 
• Event 1: Saturday 14 February 2026 - Harbour Fun Day
• Event 2: Sunday 1 March 2026 - Youth Racing and NZSS Competition
• Uniform: Singlets provided for race days, students provide own black polyprop and black shorts.
• Equipment: Paddles and buoyancy aids are provided for all students
• Ability: Students MUST be able to swim 50m with a buoyancy aid. No previous Dragon Boat experience is necessary 
• Fee: $95 
• Closing Date: 28 November or once all places are filled if sooner (for registration and payment - no registration will be taken after this date)

NOTE: Appropriate school behaviour and attendance standards are a requirement for a student to participate in extra-curricular activities.
