Dear Parents and Caregivers,
PPTA Strike Action - Teaching for students during the upcoming teacher strikes by PPTA
PPTA Teachers' Strike 20 August
The PPTA has advised the Sacred Heart College Board that its member teachers at our school will be taking strike action on Wednesday 20 August 2025.
The Board has carefully considered the availability of non-union teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can't provide normal instruction during the strike so the school will officially be closed for instruction during the above times. Accordingly, it's important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your student/s under 14 years of age during the period of the strike. If making alternative arrangements for care is difficult, we can still supervise a small number of students if required. Please email the office [email protected] if your student/s will need this.
Some scheduled events, such as Te Ao Haka external examinations and the Outdoor Education Ski Trip, will also continue as planned. If your child is involved in any event that has been granted an exemption to proceed during the strike day, you will be notified directly.
School transport will be running at the usual times.
We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern.
Please keep an eye on our website for updates to this information.
Mid-Term Break
Please note that Monday 25 August was already scheduled as a mid-term break, coinciding with the start of Winter Tournament Week. Sacred Heart has 105 students participating in various competitions, and tournaments will proceed as planned.
This period presents a valuable opportunity for our students to catch up on studies. With only 19 school days remaining in the term after today, we encourage students to use this time productively. There is ample revision, project work and portfolio preparation that can be undertaken independently.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Yours sincerely
