Stories of International Students' time at Sacred Heart College.

CLEAR (THAILAND)Jaruwan Martong

Name: Jaruwan (Clear) Martong

Country: Thailand

Hi, I’m Clear Martong. I’m from Thailand and I’m in Year 12. I have been at Sacred Heart College for almost two years. I chose this school because it is a safe and friendly place. The teachers help international students a lot. I also like that the school is in a beautiful place.

My favorite subject is social studies because I enjoy learning about people and the world. I want to study law in the future and social studies helps me with that. I also enjoy making friends and talking with people from different countries.

At first it was hard to understand English and the new school system, but the teachers and staff were very kind and helped me a lot. After school I want to go to university in Thailand and study law.

Sacred Heart has helped me feel more confident. If you are thinking about coming here don’t be scared, it’s a great place to learn and make new friends.

AIRIN (JAPAN)Airin Futakawame

Name: Airin Futakawame

Age: 16

Country: Japan

Hi, my name is Airin and I’m from Japan. I’m 16 but turning 17 years old. I’m Year 12 at Sacred Heart College.

One of my favourite times was in my outdoor education class when we went on a trip on our bikes. We went camping for two days in Wainuiomata – it was great.   In Japan, we don't have trips like that - so it was good experiencing something different – especially on a school trip. I was able to build a tent, make dinner and got along with many people!

In my first week I felt scared, because this school is so big. But after spending a good amount of time in New Zealand, I feel like I’ve really enjoyed going to school at Sacred Heart College. My advice for new international students would be don’t be nervous. All the people are kind and friendly.
